NAFO CZ/SK

How it started

It all started in May 2022 on Twitter (X), under the post of user Kamil Dyszewski, going by the name @Kama_Kamilia. Kamil wanted to support the collection of funds for the Georgian Legion, a volunteer battalion fighting alongside the Ukrainian army against the Russian aggressor. He offered those who donate financially to create their own Shiba Inu avatar as a token of gratitude. Now people can donate to any legitimate collection to help Ukraine (more info in the section on “How to become a Fella”).

Among the notable personalities who have been included among the honorary Fellas and who support and recognize the work of NAFO are, for example: US Congressman Adam Kinzinger, former Ukrainian Minister of Defense Oleksej Reznikov, former UK Minister of Defense Ben Wallace, or Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas. Among the Czech personalities stand out Dana Drábová and Dominik Hašek. In July 2023, the founder of NAFO (Kamil Dyszewski) received the Star of Lithuanian Diplomacy award, which is the highest Lithuanian award for diplomacy, on behalf of the entire NAFO.

We didn't start the fire

NAFO was popularized - albeit unintentionally - by the Russian envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, who wrote on his Twitter that Russia had to attack Ukraine because Ukraine was asking for it by behaving aggressively and attacking Russian civilians. Members of NAFO subsequently bombarded the controversial tweet with jokes and memes, resulting in the ambassador withdrawing from Twitter entirely for a week. This example illustrates well how NAFO works - the battlefield is social media and humor.
